Four of the seven seats on the Belton Independent School District school board were up for by-district general election on May 7, 2016. Area 1 incumbent Penny Digby chose not to file for re-election. Ronald Bailey and Jeff Norwood faced each other in the race. Norwood defeated Bailey. The races in Areas 2, 3, and 5 were canceled by the district due to lack of opposition.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Belton ISD Board of Trustees is composed of seven members who are elected to three-year terms. Five members are elected by district election in specifically numbered seats and two are elected at-large.[2] Areas 1, 2, 3, and 5 were scheduled for general election on May 7, 2016. There was no primary election.[3]

Candidates running for the school board had to be a United States citizen, a resident of Texas for at least 12 months, and a resident of the district for at least six months. Candidates also had to be 18 years of age or older and registered to vote.[3]
