Vaeth ran for election to the open seat of Governor of Maryland. Vaeth was disqualified from the ballot on March 18, 2014.[2] The general election took place on November 4, 2014. In Maryland, the governor and lieutenant governor are elected on the same ticket. Vaeth's lieutenant gubernatorial running mate was Duane "Shorty" Davis (R).[3]

Vaeth ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. Senate, representing Maryland. He sought the nomination on the Republican ticket. Vaeth was defeated by Dan Bongino in the Republican primary on April 3, 2012.[4][5]
