Campaign themes
2016
Smith's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
“ | I am a civil engineer and a businessman. I am not a politician and have never ran for office before. I am not interested in a political career, but I am interested in serving my community and state as a public servant.
I have a lifetime of experiences serving God and our community, being devoted to my wife, raising a family, and running a successful business in a highly competitive market. I have years of experience working with government agencies and I know how to work with others to get things done and how to make government more efficient and responsive to its citizens. A politician can promise anything to get elected, then conveniently forget those promises while in office. A voter can only determine which candidate deserves their vote by comparing what he or she has done in their lives. I encourage everyone to compare the candidates and vote for the one most qualified to lead our state through these most difficult and challenging financial times.[2] |
