I am a proud FWISD graduate, who attended Prairie View A & M University where I majored in Biology and a minored in Chemistry. I went in to graduate from the New York College of Podiatry Medicine. The first in my immediate family to go to college, I credit FWISD for the fact that I am now a doctor practicing in Tarrant County. I have lived and worked in FWISD District 1 my entire life.
  • 1. I want every student to enjoy a stellar education which prepares them to be successful adults. From dual language programs to early college high school to fine arts, these are just a few of the choices offered to our students.
  • I am committed to ensuring that all of our students have a strong foundation in reading. I enjoy visiting FWISD schools and reading to our next generation of leaders. Literacy is a key building block to the success of our students.
  • I work closely with stakeholders on a daily basis to ensure that FWISD is transparent and reflects the values of our community. From the Bond Program to our budget, community involvement is paramount.
I am passionate about giving students and their families a voice in our schools. I want both students and those who are reading them to know that we are all working together for the same goal: ensuring the very best education!
I look up to my best friend, my mother, Hope Rodriguez, who will turn 94 in May. My mother, along with her siblings, had to leave school at a young age to go work to keep food only the table. As a result, my mother received her GED the same year I graduated from High School. She is a wonderful reminder to me to never give up on your hopes and dreams. My mother has also served as a mother to many in our community. She reminds me daily that we should all lift others as we climb.
Integrity is most paramount. A willingness to listen and do what is in the best interests of the students not oneself is also critical.
The School Board should work to constantly improve resources to ensure student achievement. Moreover, we always must work to lift up the community by engaging as many members as possible.
I have always wanted to serve my community as a doctor. Being able to return and assist others is a dream come true. I hope I inspire out next generation to dream big but to also give back. I don’t do this work for thanks, I do it because I want all students to have the very same opportunities that I have had in my own life.
Losing my grandfather was very difficult. I was about 10 year old. He was a larger than life figure in my life.
I worked at a fast food restaurant for the summer in high school
My father was such a mentor to me. Watching his health decline and then losing him ten years ago this year still hurts so much. Though he had very little education, he ensured that my siblings and I never went without. I miss him every single day and I hope that I made him proud.
FWISD board members must balance a nearly billion dollar budget yearly. We are so tasked with hiring the superintendent and internal auditor. We are often the faces of the district and should be accessible and accountable to all.
Students, parents, teachers, other staff and anyone who comes through the doors of our schools are all constituents.
By ensuring everyone feels welcome at every FWISD campus and facility. By recognizing that we have a diverse community and workforce allows FWISD to thrive.
When a child enters the school and is ready, willing and excited to learn, we know we are succeeding. Also, positive data should reflect that our teaching methods are working.
At both the high schools I represent, there are diverse educational opportunities for our students. For example, years ago my nephew decided he wanted to be an auto mechanic. As a student at Northside High School, he gained the necessary knowledge to fulfil his dreams and his now making a great wage for his family.

Not all of our students will go on to a four year college. We must have other avenues available for them to succeed. From dual language programs to culinary arts to JROTC for those who wish to enter our military, there are a myriad opportunities available. We must get the word out so that students and their families know we are on the pathway to success!
We must continue to work with our colleagues on a local, state and national level to ensure that public education is funded. Having a great education is akin to accomplishing the American Dream. Every student deserves the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
We follow all guidelines enacted by our State and local authorities, including the presence of school resource officer at every campus. We also employ campus monitors.

I visit schools on an almost daily basis. No one is allowed access without first signing in at the front desk and explaining why you are there.
First we have to a knowledge how important mental health is for our students, faculty and staff. Now more than ever perhaps, we don’t always know what others are facing. It is important for us to have resources available to those who are struggling.
I don’t know any good jokes!
I would like there to be a clear policy regarding district employees running for office. I also favor term limits.
The school should be welcoming and provide for the needs of the students. On the north side of the district, several of our schools now provide a food pantry to ensure that our students and their families are never hungry during these challenging economic times.

Moreover, each child should be equipped with the technology such as tablets and other instructionally materials that they need to succeed.
The pandemic was an unprecedented worldwide pandemic event. The school district did the very best they could under extremely challenging circumstances. No one could have imagined schools across the world would shut down. In retrospect I want our students to be more prepared to learn on line in an emergency situation.
A majority of our schools employ a parent engagement specialist whose primary focus is building relationships with our parents. We also have a parent portal on our website so parents can receive regular updates about their children, teachers and campus as a whole.
FWISD is very proactive in attracting new leaders by working in concert with various schools to hire teachers right out of college. We hold hiring fairs often including just last weekend to attract the best and brightest to our schools.
I believe wholeheartedly in financial transparency and accountability at every level of government. Tax payers expect us to be responsible and we must never forget that.
