CLAIRE SNYDER-HALL is a pro-choice Democrat, running to be the first woman to represent the people of RD 14 in the Delaware State House. Over the years, Claire has worked in the political world in a number of different ways, including 8 years holding leadership positions within the Democratic Party and 5 years running the Delaware Office of Common Cause, a nonpartisan organization. She has also worked on a range of issue campaigns, including marriage equality, death penalty repeal, and protections for owners of manufactured housing. And she ran for state senate in 2014. Before moving to Rehoboth full-time, Claire spent 12 years on the faculty of George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she taught political science and administered a number of academic programs. Her twenty years of classroom teaching experience also include courses taught at Princeton University, Rutgers University, Hunter College, Illinois State University, & New College of Florida. She earned a PhD in political science from Rutgers University in 1997 and a BA cum laude from Smith College in 1986.
  • This election is the most important in our lifetimes. Choice is on the ballot, democracy is on the ballot, and the American Dream itself is on the ballot, as we face a series of crises that are threatening our prosperity and quality of life -- in the areas of housing, education, healthcare, and the environment.
  • All across the country and right here in Delaware, we face a series of challenging problems with no easy answers. There are things we can do, however, to address them -- from modest doable reforms to visionary yet pragmatic policies.
  • I led a statewide, non-partisan organization, and through that work, I have developed a network of relationships with legislators, organizational allies, and community leaders. I will make use of that network to get things done for RD 14 and the First State.
Reproductive freedom, environmental resilience and sustainability, healthcare for all, economic justice, and public education.
State representatives are responsible for working with their colleagues in the General Assembly to make laws that will make the state better, to represent the people of their district in that process, to constuct a budget and allocate funds, and to provide constituent services.
My very first job was serving food in the New College of Florida cafeteria. I held that position during the summer after 9th grade.

2014

Snyder-Hall's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[5]

We need COORDINATED DEVELOPMENT

  • Excerpt: "We need a higher level of planning to make sure that new development does not destroy our property values, our environmental resources, and our quality of life — or make our traffic congestion even worse. We need to make sure we have adequate roadways and traffic lights, infrastructure, and drainage. The development approval process currently involves both state and county government."

We need MORE DOCTORS AND DENTISTS

  • Excerpt: "Attracting more doctors and dentists to the district is also a job creation plan because every doctor who sets up practice creates an average of 6 additional jobs."

We need to STRENGTHEN EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN

  • Excerpt: "To this end, whether it is a charter or a traditional school, we need to deliver quality education for our children. Unfortunately in Delaware, our schools are struggling to meet this goal."
  • Excerpt: "Call me old-fashioned, but I still believe in the ideal of traditional public schools providing a high quality education for all children regardless of means. I would like to see us more towards that ideal, not away from it."

We need to IMPROVE TRANSPORTATION

  • Excerpt: "We need better transportation, so that people can get to work and be self-sufficient, and so that local businesses will have a larger pool of potential employees to draw from. Expanding transportation means more than just additional bus routes. It also includes creative solutions like car and van pools, as well as private transportation businesses. Again public/private partnership can help at critical junctures."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Delaware

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
