Three seats on the Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education were up for general election on April 7, 2015.[1][2]
The seats of incumbents James A. Vroman, Jim Gambaiani and Rosemary Swanson were on the ballot. Swanson did not file to run for re-election, leaving Vroman and Gambaiani to run against three candidates, Chris Crabtree, Gary Tonn and Judith Zapf.[2][3] Gambiani, Vroman and Crabtree were triumphant in that race.[4]
About the district
Community Unit School District 200 is located in DuPage County in northeastern Illinois. The county seat is Wheaton. DuPage County was home to 932,126 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[5] During the 2011-2012 school year, Community Unit School District 200 was the 16th-largest school district by enrollment in Illinois and served 13,423 students.[6]
Demographics
DuPage County outperformed the rest of Illinois in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 46.3 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 31.4 percent for Illinois as a whole. The median household income for DuPage County was $78,487, while it was $56,797 for the entire state. The poverty rate was 6.9 percent compared to 14.1 percent statewide.[5]

Voter and candidate information
The Community Unit School District 200 Board of Education consists of seven members elected at-large to four-year terms on a staggered basis every odd-numbered year. A general election was held on April 7, 2015. Four seats were up for election in 2013, and three seats were up for election in 2015.[2][3]
School board candidates must be at least 18 years old, must be registered voters and must have resided in the school district for at least one year before the election.[3] To get on the ballot, candidates had to file a statement of candidacy and nominating petition with the DuPage County Clerk's Office during the filing period. The filing period began December 15, 2014, and ended December 22, 2014.[1]
To vote in this election, voters had to register by March 10, 2015. Early voting was available for registered voters starting March 23, 2015, and ending April 4, 2015.[1]

Endorsements
The Daily Herald endorsed incumbents Jim Gambaiani and James A. Vroman and challenger Chris Crabtree.[8] Vroman, Crabtree and challenger Judith Zapf were endorsed by the Wheaton Warrenville Education Association and by CUSD 200 former board member Rosemary Swanson.[9][10]
Gambaiani was further endorsed by former Mayor of Wheaton Jim Carr and Wheaton City Councilman Todd Scalzo.[11]
Challenger Gary Tonn was endorsed by Walsh Freedom.[12]
Campaign finance
School board candidates in Illinois are only required to file campaign finance reports if they accept contributions or make expenditures in excess of $5,000 in a 12-month period.[13]
No contributions or expenditures were reported during the election, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections.[14]
