Daniel Bryant is a judge of the Twelfth Judicial District Court in New Mexico. He was appointed by Governor Susana Martinez (R) on June 26, 2015, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Karen L. Parsons.[1] Bryant was elected in 2016. He served the remainder of Parson's term, which expired on December 31, 2020.

Education

Bryant received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico Highlands University and a J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law.[1]

Career

Bryant worked for many years as an attorney in private practice. He also served as an assistant district attorney for the Twelfth Judicial District.[1]

New Mexico held general elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on June 7, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 8, 2016.[2] Incumbent Daniel Bryant ran unopposed in the New Mexico 12th District Court general election for Division 3.[3]

The 84 judges of the New Mexico District Courts are selected in partisan elections to six-year terms. They must compete in yes-no retention elections if they wish to serve subsequent terms.[4]

The process of chief judge selection varies by district, as does the chief judge's term length.[4]

Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must:[4]

  • be the minimum age of 35;
  • have at least six years legal practice;
  • be a state resident for at least three years; and
  • be a district resident.
