Eatherton ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 29. Eatherton was defeated by Gary L. Cammack and incumbent Dean Wink in the Republican primary on June 5. No Democratic candidates filed for election. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.

Incumbent Thomas Brunner (R) did not run for re-election due to term limits.[1][2]
