David R. Akemann

David R. Akemann is a resident judge for the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court in Kane County, Illinois.[1] He was elected to the court in 2010.[2] Akemann was retained in the general election on November 8, 2016.
Education
Akemann earned a B.S. from Brigham Young University, going on to receive his J.D. from Lewis University.[3]
Career
Prior to his judicial election in 2010, Akemann spent 32 years as a practicing attorney. From 1992 to 2000, he served two terms as Kane County State's Attorney.[4]

Judges of the Illinois Circuit Court stand for retention after their first full term. To be retained, a judge must receive at least 60 percent of the vote.[5][6] David R. Akemann was retained in the Illinois Sixteenth Circuit Court, David Akemann Retention Election with 78.64 percent of the vote.

Dalton defeated Democrat John G. Dalton with 61.41 percent of the vote in the November 2 general election.[2][7]
Approach to the law
When asked at a candidates forum which U.S. Supreme Court justice he most closely identified with, Akemann chose Justice Antonin Scalia. He commented that judges ought not legislate from the bench.[4]
