|As a consequence of my upbringing, the standard for excellence is integrated into my being. I always strive to be better than the best, which is something that not only takes hard work, but also creativity and innovation. This ethic carried me through college, graduate school, law school, my jobs, the programs I built, and just about everything. It even led to my candidacy for Commissioner and shows up on my website; people have called my platforms "fresh."
As always, the cards are stacked against me in this race and I'm okay with it. My educational background is more diverse, policy platforms are better formed, and vision is clearer than my opponent. Please compare my website to others' and make your own judgment. My website is deepenk.com- I'll ensure that Clark County adapts rationally to our new COVID-19 world so that we are stronger on the other side of this pandemic.
- I'll strengthen the partnerships between Clark County and the local groups (nonprofits) and residents to provide higher quality social services on a tighter budget.
- I'll make it easier for residents of North Vegas and NE Vegas to stay connected with local government.
For now, I'm most excited about restarting our economy and bringing Clark County out of the pandemic stronger than ever. That's not only the area where I can make the biggest impact on most people's lives, but its also the area that offers the most intellectually stimulating puzzle imaginable because 1) Stopped tourism means lower revenues for Clark County and higher unemployment. We'll need to offer more social services with a smaller budget. Corona virus has created many rock-and-hard-place type situations like this. 2) Many temporary solutions for COVID-19 will have significant consequences. For example, people who haven't paid rent will experience the struggle of a balloon payment just as the pandemic is ending and things are supposed to get better. 3) The draw to "going back to normal" will prevent a lot of folks from seeing a better future because they are focused on recreating the past. Leading us out of this will not be easy, but I see a clear path for our first few steps regardless of what happens with a second wave, reinfection, testing, treatments, and a vaccine. From there, you can expect me to be responsive to new info.
