Campaign themes

2014

Suppes' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Fiscal Responsibility

  • Excerpt: "Colorado’s legislature owes the people the respect of being fiscally responsible with the tax dollars entrusted to their care. As a state senator, I’ll watch for government waste and vote on finances with the utmost care."

Re-establishing All of Our 2nd Amendment Rights

  • Excerpt: "A Federal judge recently upheld the Hickenlooper legislation, but our law enforcement officials have appealed the ruling. These bills not only infringe upon the right to bear arms under the State and Federal Constitution, but they are also unenforceable, according to the vast majority of Colorado’s law enforcement personnel. As your State Senator, I’ll vote to repeal the anti-gun bills of 2013."

Defending Businesses and Entrepreneurs

  • Excerpt: "The weight of government regulations can be felt by all, whether impoverished or economically successful. These regulations drive costs up, thus creating a situation where grandma and grandpa are forced to choose between medicine or meals. As your state senator I will fight to keep government in check and seek to abolish these harmful regulatory burdens which have driven up the cost of living and the cost of doing business."

Protecting Colorado Water Rights

  • Excerpt: "The Prior Appropriations System, or first-in-time, first-in-right, is original to the West. This system is innately fair and encourages cooperation among competing factions. Any future legislation must protect all water rights. As your State Senator, I’ll fight for fairness and protect our rural water from Front Range and Out-of-State interests. "

Preserving Our Rural Way of Life

  • Excerpt: "Five-generations of my family have depended on agriculture in Western Colorado as a way of life. I promise to be the state senator who stands up for rural Colorado. I want my kids to have the same opportunities in rural Colorado that I have had and if things don’t change that will never happen."
