Ella Ward is a member of the Chesapeake City Council in Virginia. She assumed office on July 1, 2006. Her current term ends on January 1, 2027.

The city of Chesapeake, Virginia, held general elections for mayor and city council on May 1, 2018. The deadline for candidates to file to run in this election was March 6, 2018. Five seats on the city council were up for regularly-scheduled elections. There were also special elections held for mayor and a sixth city council seat.

2016
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Democratic. Donald McEachin (D) defeated Mike Wade (R) in the general election on November 8, 2016. McEachin defeated Ella P. Ward in the Democratic primary, while Wade defeated Jackee Gonzalez to win the Republican nomination. The primary elections took place on June 14, 2016. Incumbent Randy Forbes (R) chose to seek re-election in the 2nd District instead of the 4th after redistricting flipped his safely Republican seat to a safely Democratic one.[2][3]

2014
Elections for the city council of Chesapeake, Virginia were held on May 6, 2014. Five of the eight seats were up for election. Incumbent Scott W. Matheson did not run for re-election. Incumbents John de Triquet, Suzy H. Kelly, Ella P. Ward and Lonnie Craig won re-election, while Roland J. Davis, Jr. also won election to the council. Jason M. Morris, Burnie F. Mansfield, Jr. and Bryan Collins were defeated.[4][5][6]

2012
Ward ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Virginia's 4th District. She won the nomination on the Democratic ticket and defeated Joe Elliott Jr. in the June 12 primary.[7] She lost to Republican Randy Forbes in the general election.[8]
By June 2012, Ward had raised $23,000, while Elliott reported no campaign contributions.[9]
