Federal Vacancy Warning System: 111th Congress
Overview
The 111th Congress lasted from January 3, 2009 until January 3, 2011 and coincided with the first two years of President Barack Obama's first term. During this Congress, the United States Senate confirmed 2 Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, 16 Circuit Court nominees and 44 District Court nominees.[1]
During the 111th Congress, the Senate Judiciary Committee sent 25 Circuit Court nominations and 78 District Court nominations to the full Senate.[2] Senator Patrick Leahy was Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.[3]
