Mitchell ran in the 2012 election for Georgia State Senate District 7. Mitchell ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on July 31, 2012. Tyler Harper defeated Representative Mark Hatfield (R) and Rodney Vickers in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2] Mitchell was defeated in the general election.[3]
