All five seats on the Henrico County Public Schools School Board were up for general election on November 3, 2015.[1]

Newcomers Tara Adams, Roscoe Cooper III and Marcus Martin competed for the Fairfield District seat vacated by incumbent Lamont Bagby. Cooper won the open seat. In the Varina District, board member John Montgomery Jr. defeated challenger Ralph Hodge. Brookland District incumbent Beverly Cocke, Three Chopt District incumbent Michelle Ogburn and Tuckahoe District incumbent Lisa Marshall ran unopposed and won re-election to their seats.

Henrico County Public Schools is located in east Virginia in Henrico County. The county seat of Henrico County and capital of Virginia is Richmond. This county was home to 321,924 residents in 2014, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Henrico County Public Schools was the sixth-largest school district in Virginia and served 49,654 students.[3]

Demographics

Henrico County outperformed the rest of Virginia in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 39.7 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 35.2 percent for Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Henrico County was $61,048, compared to $63,907 for the state of Virginia. The poverty rate was 10.7 percent, compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[2]
