The Illinois Elimination of Lieutenant Governor Amendment, HJR CA18 was not on the November 4, 2014 ballot in Illinois as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure sought to eliminate the position of lieutenant governor from the state constitution. The measure was primarily sponsored by Rep. David McSweeney (R-52) in the House, where it was known as House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 18.[1][2][3]
This measure would have amended Article V of the Illinois Constitution by changing Sections 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7, as well as repealing Sections 4 and 14.[2]

Path to the ballot

To qualify for the 2014 ballot, the measure required a 60 percent vote of approval by both the House and the Senate. On April 11, 2013, the measure was approved by the House by 74.77 percent. However, the Senate failed to approve the measure.[3]
