James S. Casebolt was a judge on the Colorado Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court on February 12, 1994, and took the oath of office two days later. He was retained by voters in 1996, and then to full eight-year terms in 2004 and 2012.[1] Casebolt's term was set to expire on January 8, 2021, but he retired on July 1, 2015.[2][3]

Education

Casebolt earned his B.A. in 1972 from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Casebolt earned his J.D. in 1975 from the University of Colorado School of Law in Boulder.[4]

Casebolt was retained in the general election on November 6, winning 72.64 percent of the vote.[5]

2012 Judicial performance evaluation

The Colorado Commission on Judicial Performance announced its recommendations for judges up for retention in 2012. According to its website, the commission evaluates judges based on the following criteria: integrity, legal knowledge, communication skills, judicial temperament, and administrative performance.


Casebolt was recommended for retention by a 10-0 vote. [6]
