James David Cain was a 2011 Republican candidate for District 30 of the Louisiana State Senate.

Cain ran in the 2011 election for Louisiana Senate District 30. He faced incumbent John Smith (R) and Terry Fowler (D) in the primary election on October 22, 2011. Because Louisiana uses a blanket primary system, a candidate can be declared the overall winner of the seat by garnering 50 percent +1 of the vote in the primary. However, since no candidate reached this threshold, a general election took place on November 19, 2011 between top-two vote getters Smith and Cain.[1] Smith defeated Cain to win re-election.[2]

The week of the primary Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal (R) spent approximately $100,000 of his campaign funds to pay for a TV ad opposing Cain. Cain criticized Jindal for supporting Cain's opponent in the race, John Smith.[3]
