Campaign themes

2016

Colver's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • I am an unwaivering supporter of our Second Amendment, and the NRA stands by me with their full endorsement.
  • I am 100% Pro Life.
  • I am completely against raiding our Alaska State PFD, raising our property taxes, and lining the pockets of special interest. Our leaders need to get their hands out of our wallets and implement smart fiscal reform once and for all.
  • I have developed safe roads, and more help is on the way.
  • I stand up for the rights of property owners.
  • I honor my oath of office to uphold the Constitution.
  • I support the education that works best for your family: Traditional Schools, Home Schooling, and Charter Schools. You decide what works for your family. I'm an experienced budget hawk, implementing ” smarter budgeting”. I know how to cut bloated budgets and administrative overhead to direct resources to our students and teachers in order to improve student learning. I've led the successful effort to kill the useless federal mandated AMP assessment test that produced no usable data to improve individual student learning.[1]
—Jim Colver, [2]

2014

Colver's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[3]

Roads

  • Excerpt: "Put Jim to work building roads for you. Jim’s professional expertise in surveying and road construction will provide you with the representation you need to cut the red tape and studies to get roads built."

Education

  • Excerpt: "I am a strong supporter of Education. I support Educational Choice for Families. I believe every family has the right to choose what they believe is best for their children."

2nd Amendment

  • Excerpt: "I defend the 2nd Amendment. I support and defend your constitutional right to bear arms."

Hunting & Fishing

  • Excerpt: "Provide maximum opportunity for Alaskan residents to put fish & game on the dinner table."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Alaska

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Legislators are scored by the Alaska Business Report Card on "how supportive they are of Alaska’s private business sector."[13]
Legislators are scored on their votes on conservative issues.
