Campaign themes
2014
Dexter provided a campaign statement in the voter guide published by The Sacramento Bee in 2014:
“ | To continue to move TRUSD toward equality and accessibility for all students and provide a voice for all stakeholders. It is critical with the new Local Control Funding Formula to make sure all voices are heard. TRUSD must continue to move forward.[3] | ” |

Dexter's campaign website listed the following campaign themes for 2014:
“ | Common Core State Standards
John believes that teachers and students need the supports necessary to be successful. Mr Dexter knows it requires training, funding and enthusiastic educators for the successful implementation of the new Common Core State Standards. Educators need time and training to develop the curriculum necessary to meet these new higher expectations for our students. He has pushed to return music and arts programs back to the elementary school sites. He wants the current students to have the same excellent quality of education his own children received when they attended our district schools. John Dexter knows that young minds need experience in the media and performing arts to be successful in language arts. Research shows that when elementary students have the opportunity for music instruction they excel in mathematics. The common core will be successful when these opportunities are offered to our students. Charter Schools John believes that Charter schools should mirror the public schools in their areas. John knows that charter schools should mirror the public school population and requirements. He believes that charter schools must have credentialed staff and the same offerings as public schools. All students must have access to the professional instruction and facilities that provide students opportunities in labs, gyms and the arts. Many private charters are storefronts without proper services
District Funding School site funding should be decided by all stakeholders. I believe funding priorities should start at the local school site level. Each school site knows their needs. California's new Local Control Funding Formula allows all stakeholders to be part of the decision making process. I encourage the parents and other community members to attend the local workshops to help establish spending priorities.[3] |
