Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Jordan is the youngest child of Nancy Hindsley and Michael Nally. Jordan and his family have strong ties to Wilmington's Little Italy where they have been active members of the community, working in leadership roles in local Italian-American clubs and serving at St. Anthony and St. Hedwig parishes. After graduating from John Dickinson High School, Jordan continued to worked at his family's small business before beginning a career in finance at JP Morgan Chase. As a mentor for Year Up, he believes in bridging the opportunity gap in Delaware schools to create a new generation of well-educated, skilled young adults that will pursue meaningful careers in Delaware. Jordan lives in Wilmington with his fiancé and partner of 8 years, James Kane and their 7 year old German Shepard, Koda.
  • I believe education is the foundation to a prosperous state. Delawares next generation deserves an education system that arms them with the skills of the future and prepares them for careers that are in demand. Delaware has one of the highest spending rates per pupil in the country, but our students aren't proficient enough in core subjects to be competitive in todays economy. I promise to work with educators, parents and the local business community to guarantee that our students are career and college ready.
  • Delaware was once known as a banking and business friendly state, but out of touch legislation has forced good paying jobs out of state, and small businesses to suffer. When elected I will reevaluate current taxes and regulations and see what decisions in Dover can be made to help foster a thriving prosperous economy.
  • It's no secret that our healthcare system needs a drastic overhaul. I remember the difficulties my Mom faced when she had a preexisting condition and was looking for insurance. And we all experience the challenges we have today with high premiums and poor coverage. I promise to fight to bring a more competitive marketplace to Delaware, with a focus on preventative treatment to help drive down cost.
Delaware was once a place where people were raised to vote for a candidate not because of their party but because of their values. It's clear to see the change that's happening in Delaware. More and more jobs leaving the state each year. Students not being taught the skills needed to prepare them for 21st century jobs. And an ever increasing partisan government, where all decisions are made by one party, without any debate or transparency. We need to fight to bring jobs back to Delaware. We need to guarantee that our students are armed with the tools needed to be proficient in todays workforce. We need to reach across the aisle and bring back that Delaware spirit of bipartisanship, putting constituents first and foremost in-order to get things done. I promise to uphold these beliefs and much more if I'm elected as your State Representative.
My Mom is my hero. Growing up my Mom worked hard to lead by examples and put others before herself. When we lost my brother to a brain aneurysm, my Mom turned to the Lord and began teaching CCD to students at St. Hedwigs. When she was diagnosed with lung cancer she continued putting others first. Making homemade spaghetti dinners for the hospital staff and working to ensure that everyone had a nice Christmas, regardless of her condition. My Mom was one of the strongest women around and the selflessness that she taught will follow me when elected to represent the 4th RD in Dover.
I find it important for our elected officials to be accessible, transparent and an advocate for the people that they represent. Too often do we see legislators introducing bills that do not speak to the will or needs of the people they represent.
I still remember every moment from the morning of September 11th, 2001. I was 11 years old and sitting in English class when our teacher told us the news, "a plane flew into the World Trade Center". Shortly after all of us students were gathered in the cafeteria while teachers notified parents that school was dismissing. The confusion and fear was quickly replaced with grief and sorrow for all the families that lost loved ones that morning.
My father owns a small preowned car dealership and growing up I would help around the lot. My first job given to me at the lot was to keep the cars clean and ready for sale. As I learned more about the business I was able to progress and move to sales which I really enjoyed since I got to work directly with the customers. It was always very rewarding when you're able to get someone into a dependable vehicle within their budget.
I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter series! I can still remember sitting at the kitchen table reading the first few pages of the first book in the series while my Mom was cooking dinner. I was hooked right away and over the years as the books were released my MomMom would surprise me by making sure I had a copy the first day they came out. When I look at my bookshelf I instantly go back to those days and the excitement that I felt and now cherish the memories I hold around those books.
The hardest struggle I've faced in my life so far was when my Mother and Grandmother were diagnosed with Stage 4 (Mom), and Stage 3 (MomMom) lung cancer just a few months apart. My Mom and MomMom were two of the strongest women around and always worked to put others needs ahead of their own. They both put up incredible fights, often signing up for clinical trials knowing that they would not benefit from the study, but praying that doctors and scientist could learn from them to help others with their fight. It was incredibly hard to sit back helpless as the cancer progressed, but my Mom and MomMom kept a positive attitude and focused on putting others first, right until the very end. I hope to follow by the example they set and put the needs of my community ahead of my own while honoring their memory.
We need to work together in-order to improve our broken education system. I believe that education is the foundation for a prosperous state. Delaware's students deserve an education system that arms them with the skills of the future, and prepares them for careers that are in high demand. Currently, only 59% of 12th grade students in Delaware are career/college ready. It's time to return control of our classrooms back to our educators and form a more collaborative learning environment. Teachers, parents and the local business community should make decisions together to ensure that our students are being taught the skills needed to be successful after graduation. We need to advocate for our teachers, fighting to help them secure fair pay for their hard work. And finally, we need to guarantee that all students have access to the tools needed to be successful in our digital age. This includes easily accessible high speed internet, especially for those in low income and/or rural areas.
I believe that it's important to have checks and balances and not to allow one chamber to have full control. Take the COVID-19 pandemic for instance. Since becoming an official pandemic on March 11th, Governor Carney has issued 16 modifications to his original State of Emergency, taking little feedback from elected officials in the General Assembly. Rather than working with local elected representatives, business leaders, and constituents, Governor Carney continues to make decisions unilaterally with little regard for our Constitution, and minimal acknowledgement of his orders' detrimental impact. Only by collaborating and working together can we implement effective policy and overcome this crisis.
Michael Smith, RD 22 in Delaware has lead by example and has been a great role model while in office. Since taking office, Mike has put his constituents first, reaching across the aisle to get things done for his district. Mike also has been a community advocate for years, always ready to lend a helping hand. I believe that it's important for legislators to follow his example and put your community before self. Additionally, Mike has introduced legislation that is innovative and will bring more transparency into Delaware's State House.
