I am a mother to two wonderful children and have been blessed to be married to my best friend for over forty years. My husband and I have called Oregon City our home for over three decades. We rooted our lives here. We've raised our family here. And now, I am running to represent our community as your next State Representative.

Over the past 30 years I have been the owner of Lisa Davidson Consulting, LLC where I focus on communication and training. Formerly I was an Executive Director/ Dean at Clackamas Community College. I have been an Adjunct Professor at Marylhurst and Concordia Universities teaching Communication, Business, and Leadership courses. I was a Vice President at First Interstate Bank. I have also served on the Executive Board of North Clackamas Chamber, and on the State Advisory Board for Small Business Development Centers.

Oregon’s small businesses have been hammered by Governor Brown’s mandates, our state’s high taxes, and excessive government regulations. As state representative, I will work with our small business owners to ease government restrictions, to reduce the cost of owning and operating a business, and to help our entrepreneurs grow and thrive.

I support our local police officers and will be a strong advocate for fully funding law enforcement. Families should feel safe in their own neighborhoods, when they travel throughout the community, or visit other areas of the state. I will always stand up for our brave men and women in uniform and uphold the rule of law.

Clackamas County faces some of the worst congestion in the state. Businesses are having a difficult time moving freight and commute times are soaring. I will address this issue head on by advocating for improved transit options and increasing road capacity so we can keep our community moving. I will also SAY NO to TOLLING on our local highways.

Access to a trained and educated workforce is essential to a thriving private sector. It’s also critical to helping individuals advance in their careers and earn higher wages and stable employment. I understand the impact a quality education can have on an individual's life. We can and should be doing more to invest in career and technical education programs to support our employers, make higher education more affordable, and help Oregonians achieve their full potential.
Elected officials need to be people of integrity and honesty. They need to be able to listen, hear different perspectives, and represent multiple voices. They need to encourage discussions, find out about the challenges and opportunities in their region, and be willing and able to push back when necessary and push forward on issues that are important in their district and region.
My first job was a Customer Service Representative at First Interstate Bank. I started at the bank when I was 16 and still in high school, and I continued with First Interstate for 17 years. While I was at the bank I held positions in Customer Service, Teller, Operations, Personal and Small Commercial Lending, Marketing, Service Promotion, and Training. The bank provided a stable work environment for me while I finished my bachelors in Business/Marketing and then my Masters in Speech and Communication. I left the bank when I started my own consulting business. At that time I was Vice President of Training, and managed the sales and service training design team for 13 Western states.
When traveling around District 51, I have been asking residents what they feel are the greatest challenges impacting the state. Universally the number one issue is homelessness and how the current policies are negatively impacting community safety, livability, and business success. Homelessness/houselessness is a very complex issue, but it is something that needs to be addressed with the help of experts in the areas of mental health, addictions, and social services, and housing. The second issue that comes up frequently is crime in neighborhoods. I am in favor of fully funding the police so that we have the resources to follow up on criminal activities and making our communities safe again. Another challenge that needs attention is looking at policies, taxes, and regulations that are strangling small businesses. We need to make Oregon a business friendly state so that businesses can thrive and employ local residents with living wage jobs. We also must focus on our workforce systems and resources to create a pipeline of skilled, competent, confident workers to fill open positions and welcome entrepreneurial spirit to create a vibrant economy.
As a legislative body, we represent the whole state. Legislators bring multiple perspectives, have varied life and work experience, and understand the issues that are of critical importance to their region. Building relationships with other legislators allows us to glean from the collective knowledge of all elected officials and gives us a broader understanding of how to work together to develop laws that support the whole state.
I do believe that compromise is desirable for policymaking. As a legislator, I will be representing all residents of District 51 and all decisions will impact the surrounding areas and the state. All voices need to be heard. We will all benefit from hearing the diversity of ideas and suggestions that come from different perspectives. If we are interested and open to working together, compromise will help us move forward while honoring a variety of voices.
