In Louisiana, a two-thirds vote is needed in each chamber of the Louisiana State Legislature to refer a legislatively referred constitutional amendment to the ballot for voter consideration.

This amendment was introduced as House Bill 29 on January 27, 2022. On May 23, 2022, the state House passed HB 29 in a vote of 70-21 with 14 members absent. The measure was not passed before the legislature adjourned the 2022 legislative session on June 6, 2022.[1]
