My name is Luis Ybarra Jr., and I am a native of the Widefield Security area. I grew up in the WSD3 School system and proudly graduated from Widefield High School. Together with my family, I operate a local nonprofit boxing gym where we dedicate ourselves to helping at-risk youth develop their skills and confidence. I began boxing at the age of six, and my journey culminated in competing in the 2020 Olympic boxing qualifier. Currently, I coach young aspiring boxers, sharing my passion for the sport and guiding them toward their goals. Beyond boxing, I work in public health with the local Security Water and Sanitation District, ensuring our community has access to vital services. Additionally, I serve on the Board of Adjustment for El Paso County, where I contribute to helping our community.
  • One of my top priorities is student achievement, which I believe is fundamentally influenced by strong leadership. I am committed to empowering our teachers by equipping them with the essential tools and resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Rather than teaching agendas, my focus is on reinforcing the core basics: reading, writing, math, history, and science. By concentrating on these foundational subjects, we can foster a deeper understanding and mastery among our students. This approach not only enhances individual learning but also strengthens our district and community as a whole, allowing us to strive for collective success
  • My second priority is accountability and transparency. I believe it is essential to ensure that both parents and students feel heard in our decision-making processes. By fostering open communication and clarity around the actions of the board, we can build trust within our community. I am committed to making sure that everything we do is transparent and accessible to the public, allowing for an inclusive dialogue that empowers families to engage meaningfully in their children's education. This focus on accountability not only strengthens our relationships with the community but reinforces our commitment to serving the best interests of our students.
  • My third priority is upholding parental rights and ensuring that they are never infringed upon. I firmly believe that we have a commitment to the parents of every child to respect their decisions regarding their child's education and well-being. It is crucial that parents feel empowered and involved in the educational journey of their children. By fostering an environment that honors parental rights, we can work collaboratively with families to support each child's unique needs and aspirations. This respect for parental authority not only strengthens our partnership with families but also ultimately enhances the educational experience for all students.
I am deeply passionate about public safety and the individual rights of everyone. I believe that a balanced approach is essential—one that prioritizes the safety and security of our neighborhoods while also protecting the fundamental rights of every individual. It is my commitment to advocate for policies that enhance public safety measures without compromising personal freedoms. By fostering a community where safety and individual rights coexist harmoniously, we can create an environment where all residents feel secure and respected. This dual focus is vital for building trust and ensuring the well-being of our community as a whole.
The most important characteristics for an elected official include trustworthiness and strong family values. An effective leader must prioritize the needs of the community and remember that their position is a privilege granted by the people who elected them. This responsibility requires a commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability in all actions. By embodying these principles, an elected official can embody trust and build meaningful connections with constituents, ensuring that their decisions truly reflect the interests and values of the community they serve.
The legacy I aspire to leave is one where I am remembered as a person who never wavered in the fight for what is right. I want people to know me as someone who stood up for justice and fairness, always advocating for the needs of others. Additionally, those who know me best understand my passion for bringing joy to others, I find fulfillment in putting a smile on someone's face. By combining my commitment to integrity with a genuine care for the happiness of those around me, I hope to create a lasting impact that inspires others to do the same.

I believe we need a curriculum that is free from any hidden agendas and instead focuses on equipping our students with the essential skills and knowledge they need to succeed after high school, regardless of their path. It's crucial that we prioritize practical and relevant education that prepares students for various career opportunities, life skills, and real-world challenges, even for those who may not choose to pursue higher education. By emphasizing a core curriculum centered on critical thinking, problem-solving, and essential life skills, we can better prepare our students for a successful future.
The proper balance of technology use in education involves integrating tools like artificial intelligence to enhance learning while setting clear boundaries for personal devices, such as cell phones, during school hours. Technology should be used as a supportive resource for research, collaboration, and skill development, but guidelines need to be in place to minimize distractions and ensure that face-to-face interactions and critical thinking remain central to the educational experience.
