As a candidate running for a seat on the Cincinnati School Board, I bring a plethora of knowledge in the field of education and extreme expertise on what it takes to be world class. As a teacher for over 11 years within this district I have seen firsthand what it is that our students/families/teachers and staff need in order to be successful. I have served in my schools Instructional Leadership Team, worked as a leadership presenter to my peers and I am passionate about being a voice for our students/families. I am determined to ensure that all students are receiving equitable options in their education and thriving. As an Olympic Gold Medalist, I bring tenacity, determination, perseverance and hope in that we will reach our potential as a district. I am a proud graduate of CPS and look forward to seeing my current daughters excel in this district. I am seeking this public servant duty not only for my daughters but for the 36,000 children that this district serves. I am ready to serve, and ready to work for a world class education. I am a leader and will not give up on our children. I will be a board member that this district needs!
  • To improve communication and increase transparency with our students, families and staff.
  • To level the playing field and provide equitable options and resources to all of our students in this district.
  • To invest in bringing diverse curriculum and textbooks with diversity to our classrooms.
I am most passionate about ensuring that this district is providing the best possible public education to all students enrolled and closing the academic gaps so that our students can thrive.
There are many individuals that I have looked up to or still hold a dear spot in my heart as a forever icon. I would have to first state that my mom was the first person that I looked up to because of her dedication to ensure that I had the best education possible and that I had everything I needed in life. My mom came from a background that involved her leaving a country and looking for a new start and a new life.
She embodied the opportunity to seek out the American Dream, and she overcame so many obstacles to get there. I also through my years in elementary and high school had teachers that I looked up to. It was because of them that I was able to find my talents, confidence and see that I was destined for greatness. Finally I looked up to a amazing woman who I never got the chance to meet, the great Wilma Rudolph and just being able to hear/read her words showed me that anything is possible and to always dream big. These women showed me that we all need a role model and I want to be a role model for our students and families as a school board member.
The characteristics for an elected official include one who is a leader, determined, dedicated, a good listener, organized and able to look at the whole picture before making decisions. it is someone who will but the students interest first!
I have a passion for children and ensuring that they receive the best, highest quality education possible regardless of the school they attend. I am driven, determined and a leader who will help to make these things possible for Cincinnati children.
I believe the core responsibilities consist of being the best leader possible. The entire community is counting on public elected officials and it is your duty/position to make a difference in some way. Being able to lead and communicate with a large group of people is most important when elected into this office.
I remember when the world wide web was launched in 1991. I was still in elementary school and was gearing up to enter the 7th grade in 1993. I can remember thinking how amazing it was going to be to see the world in a different way and how it would allow us to grow tremendously in news and world updates. All we would have to do was a have a computer with a dial up and the internet would be at our fingers. I was 11 at the time.
My first job was working at Kings Island during the summer as a high school student. I did this job for 2 summers and really enjoyed the opportunity to meet people and get them excited to play "Peach Basket" in the game area. of this well known Cincinnati amusement park. I had to show leadership skills, compassion, good communication and most of all I had to show how passionate I was about my job. I learned some valuable lesson from working and was able to realize that hard work pays off. I valued this job because it taught be to be responsible, and how to set goals.
The last song to be stuck in my head is "Happy" by Pharrell Williams, because as a school board candidate I am happy to be going forward with wanting to make a difference and to change lives while being a voice for our students and families. I want them to be Happy to know that I will never give up on their education.
The primary job of a school board is to set educational goals and establishes policy for the school system. These policies are based on state laws and community input. Other roles include hiring of the superintendent and treasurer/ holding them responsible. School Board members also plan student services, goal-setting and long-range planning; adopting curriculum; establishing budgets; engaging parents; and acting in the best interest of the school district. The school board serves as a link between schools and the public.
Constituents consist of two incumbents and 3 other individuals seeking a seat on the Cincinnati School Board.
I would support the diverse needs of the district by making sure to utilize the districts policy on equitable opportunities and ensuring that it is fully carried out to the best needs of the students/faculty/staff and community. I would make sure to stay engaged with these individuals to make sure collaboration occurs and our students are served in all academic, emotional and mental capacities.
I would definitely like to see an expanded curriculum in social studies so that our students can all experience a multicultural curriculum and that it can full of diversity and rigor. I also would like to see a huge increase in the expansion of vocational and trade opportunities for the students within this district. I think it would allow our students to thrive in additional ways to help make them better citizens, employees, leaders and most of all students. The ability to learn a trade or even seek our an apprenticeship will be giving back into our districts from partnering with labor/community and different organizations. This would help in aiding a brighter future for our youth.
I would continue to expand the social and emotional learning that has been put into place in the district for students to learn and advance in this area. The need for more mental health experts and more counselors to ensure that our students and staff needs are being considered and taken care of. This should be a top priority and as an educator I have seen firsthand the effects that this has caused to our children.
