Michelle J. Atkins
Michelle J. Atkins was a judge on the 4th Judicial Circuit Court in Virginia. She was elected by the Virginia General Assembly in January 2015 to replace Judge Karen J. Burrell. She took office July 1, 2015.[1] Atkins left in March 2023 and will be replaced by judge Joseph Lindsey.[2]
Atkins was previously a district court judge for the 4th Judicial District's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court from 2009 to 2015.[3]
Education
Atkins received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University and her J.D. from the Howard University School of Law.[4]
Career
Atkins was a judge of the 4th Judicial District's Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court from 2009 until her election to the circuit court in 2015. Before she became a judge, Atkins practiced law with the firm of Abrons, Fasanaro & Sceviour in Norfolk, Va. She has also previously served as an assistant commonwealth attorney.[3][5]
