Nathan Granger
Nathan Granger was a Democratic candidate for the 2011 special election to District 26 of the Louisiana State Senate. The special election primary took place on January 22. Granger was defeated, according to unofficial results, by Jonathan Perry (R) in the February 19 special election.[1]
Biography
An Erath native, Granger attended Erath High School and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During his college years he worked offshore with a pipeline company. In 2000, he founded Quality Companies which specializes in oil and gas construction, fabrication, and contract productions. He serves as a member of the Vermillion Parish Police Jury. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce, and the ULL Alumni Association. He also coaches youth basketball and baseball. He and his wife Dana have four children.[2]

Granger's 2011 special election campaign site emphasized several key policy positions and campaign themes:
- Economy & Jobs: "As a business owner for the past ten years, I realize the importance of keeping taxes low and promoting economic growth within the private sector. Local businesses are the foundation of a strong economy, and we need to provide them with the resources they need to expand and grow. Only after businesses start hiring again will this economy begin to rebound. As your state senator, I will take my business background to the state legislature and fight to lower taxes, reduce fees, and eliminate reckless spending."
- Education: "I am a product of Louisiana public schools. My children attend public schools in Erath, and my wife is a high school teacher. I know firsthand how important schools are to a community and I’m dedicated to making Louisiana’s education system the best in the nation. I want to ensure there will be good-paying jobs for every graduate who wants to stay in Louisiana, and I believe we need to invest more in our state’s colleges, universities, and vocational institutes."
- Family & Community: "As a state senator, I will never waiver in my dedication to my family, my faith, and my community. I will always vote to protect traditional family values and I will always vote pro-life. To me these are not political issues; they are a way of life."
- 2nd Amendment: "For most Louisianans, hunting is more than a sport or pastime. It’s a family tradition. I have fond memories of hunting in the marshes of south Louisiana as a child and have been a proud gun owner since I was young. As an avid sportsman, I am pro-gun and will always work to protect and preserve our Second Amendment right to bear arms."
Elections
2011
Granger lost to Jonathan Perry (R) in the District 26 special election for the Louisiana State Senate. According to unofficial results, Perry received 52 percent of the vote and Granger garnered 48 percent.[3]
