Paige Jarquin is running for WA State House to bring a sensible and balanced voice to the dialogue in Olympia. She is an engaged leader who will enact practical solutions to address the concerns voters have about public safety, parental rights in education, affordable living, and government accountability. Married to Oscar a Marine Corps veteran for 38 years, together they have 3 children and 8 grandchildren. I have over 25 years as a business professional in the real estate and as a small business owner. I have a passion for community service, especially those that focus on mentoring women owned businesses, military veterans and active duty military and their families.
I believe our children are the future and creating an environment that educates them is vital to the success of our communities.

Homelessness, mental health and drug addiction are at a critical tipping point and we need to address and treat these issues from their root causes and bring solutions to the significant underfunding of resources.

Veteran resources and support, specifically providing physical, mental and emotional support through service animals.
My mother was the person that most significantly impacted my life. She had many struggles including alcoholism and a divorce but she overcame them. In her early 50's she felt called to be a missionary with the Catholic Church and spent 30 years serving the poor and indigenous indians of Mexico. In the time she was there, she facilitated the building of two schools, water cisterns for 3 villages, worked with Smile Network and Doctors without Borders.
Authenticity and transparency of action are vital to create trust of an elected official.
State representatives, are charged with presenting the best interests of their district, in terms of introducing or supporting laws and amendments. They also serve as political spokespeople for issues that are important to their state and district, and are accountable to those they represent.
The Iran Hostage crisis in 1979, I was about 12 years old. I remember watching the news and my parents were so focused on the situation. We watched as a family when they got off the plane.
My first job was a housekeeper, I worked for a neighbor couple on Sundays for 5 hours each week. I was 13 years old when I started and left when I got married at 16 years old.
A good relationship between two parties is vital for the success of any endeavor. Specific to the relationship between a legislature and a governor, without the ability to find common ground, it would be impossible to create forward motion and ensure the growth and prosperity of the state and its people.
We have had one-party rule in our state for more than 10 years, based on results, this hasn't been beneficial to our state. Reform of many of the laws, regulations and mandates passed by the current majority party is necessary to bring balance back to our state. We the size of our government has doubled in this same time frame, without a matching improvement in performance.
An advantage of unicameral legislature is that it provides room for a faster process of law making and is applicable in moments of emergency.

A disadvantage of a unicameral legislature is that it does not make room for adequate and equal representation due to a lack of debate on the issue prior to passing a law.
It's always beneficial to have prior experience in any type of position, including government and politics, the catch-22 is that you have to get experience somewhere. Another perspective is that new members bring a new point of view to issues and debates. Experience is good but not the sole or most important factor in how well a person can do the job.
Relationships are the foundation of everything thing we do in our society. Building good relationships with other legislators, especially those of the opposing party, allows for bipartisan work to be accomplished.
I'm comfortable with our current process.
Housing, Human Services and Veterans, Education and Local Government.
No. I'm a firm supporter of term limits, and believe individuals should serve in our government for a limited amount of time and then return to the communities they created the laws for.
The Governor should not be hindered or restricted in declaring an emergency and the need for emergency powers: however if the emergency exceeds 30 days in length, the legislature should take on an oversight role.
Absolutely! One-party rule never works in government.
