Patricia Orozco
Patricia A. Orozco was a judge on the Arizona Court of Appeals, Division One. She was appointed to the court by Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano in 2004.[1] She was retained in 2008 and 2014.[2][3][4][5]
Judge Orozco retired on December 30, 2016.
Education
Orozco earned her B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1977, and her J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1989.[1]
Career
Orozco started her legal career as a staff attorney with Southern Arizona Legal Aid. In 1991, she joined the law firm of Bowman & Smith, P.C. as an associate. In 1994 she left the firm to work as a solo practitioner in Yuma County. Orozco was elected county attorney for Yuma County in 1999. She served as county attorney until her 2004 judicial appointment.

Orozco was retained to the Arizona Court of Appeals with 75.1 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [5]
Evaluation
The Judicial Performance Review Commission provides Arizona voters with an evaluation of each judge up for retention. The commission votes on whether a candidate meets or does not meet the JPR standards. Each judge is assessed on their legal ability, integrity, communication skills, judicial temperament and administrative performance.[6]
The commission voted that Orozco met the JPR standards. The vote was 29-0 in favor of retention.[5]

In 2008 Orozco was subject to a retention election.

Noteworthy cases
Hospitals liable for elder abuse claims (2013)
Orozco wrote the Arizona Court of Appeals opinion in a case asking whether hospitals can face elder abuse claims under Arizona law. The court unanimously held that hospitals can. The court relied upon the Arizona State Legislature's use of the phrase "provide care" as the basis of its decision.
