Paul Warner
Paul M. Warner was a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Utah. He was appointed to this position on February 19, 2006.[1] He retired in 2020.
Biography and Education
Judge Warner grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his B.A. degree in English from Brigham Young University in 1973 and his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at BYU in 1976. In 1984, he earned his Masters in Public Administration from the Marriott School of Management at BYU.[2]
Career
After law school, Warner served for six years as a trial judge in the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Navy. He then joined the Utah Attorney General’s office in 1982, where he worked as the Chief of the Litigation Division and the Chief Deputy to the Attorney General. In 1989, he joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah. While at this office, he was the First Assistant U.S. Attorney, Chief of the Criminal Division, and the Violent Crimes and Hate Crimes Coordinator. On July 29, 1998, he was nominated U.S. Attorney for the District of Utah by President Clinton. He was later retained by President Bush. In 2006, he became a magistrate judge.[2]
