Campaign themes

2014

Saake's campaign website listed his themes for the 2014 campaign:

Teachers
Research has repeatedly shown that teachers are the most important factor impacting student achievement.

I want to identify, attract, train, and incentivize effective teachers in our school system. We need to target the top 10% of Washoe County High School graduates, who wish to teach, and award their academic excellence by offering to forgive 1/3 of their student loans if they will teach for 5 years in the Washoe County School District. I also want to increase the base pay for these teachers to incentivize them to stay in the WCSD.

Technology
Studies are showing that for students in middle school now, 90% of the jobs they will be competing for will require strong technological skills.

Simply providing the technology tools to schools is not the solution. Technological training for instructors is imperative, as 42% of teachers admit that their students know more about technology than they do.

High-Quality Education
As parents, we want to provide the best education possible for our children. Families deserve high-quality school options to ensure their students attend a school that best meets their needs.

I believe that parents and guardians, with assistance from teachers, are best suited to make scholastic decisions for their children, and must be allowed to put their child’s interests first.
