Ricky Marumoto participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on July 29, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Ricky Marumoto's responses follow below.[1]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | If elected, my top three priorities are: listening to the voices of the people and follow up on their request(s), solve the problems that they face, and make the right decisions in the city council so that the people will benefit from my public service.[2][3] | ” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | Currently in Honolulu, one of the biggest issues on the table is homelessness. From what I can see, it is the bundle of all the problems that the city accumulated over the years. Jobs are limited and many of them can't support the high cost of living, drugs are poisoning the minds of those who have potential, and the government continues to increase fees and taxes on our citizens. I'm passionate about turning it around for the people and halt the increasing cost of living and let them keep more of what they earned.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Ricky Marumoto answered the following:
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else that best describes your political philosophy?
“ | One of my favorite films and I use it as inspiration is 'Lean on Me' starring Morgan Freeman. The film is a biographical drama that tells the story of Joe Louis Clark, who was determined to make a difference and put his students on the right track to success. My political philosophy is the same. I believe that we all have potential to be successful; it just takes hard work, determination, and dedication. Sometimes we need others to push us in the right direction, as Mr. Clark did, and I believe that our leaders in office must do the same for all of us.[3] | ” |
“ | Any elected official must remember why they are in office to begin with. Elected officials are public servants whose responsibility is to be sure that the people are benefited from their service. It should never be about 'what's in it for me?' or 'you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours'.[3] | ” |
“ | My career is based on customer service. As a PGA golf professional, I've learned how to practically manage a business operation while keeping the fundamentals of customer service very strong. Similar to a golf professional's job, elected officials must make sure that the people are taken care of and that they are satisfied with your job. My career's philosophy of 'people first' will be a powerful asset in public service.[3] | ” |
“ | The core responsibility of a city councilmember should be to represent the people and be sure that their public service is in the best interests of them. It's not about lobbyists, special interests groups, and certainly not about money going into a politician's campaign. Any elected official must also be proactive and not reactive. Those in office must make sure those problems that could have been avoided don't happen to begin with. The duty of a city councilmember must be sure that people's lives are safe and prosperous.[3] | ” |
