Campaign themes
2014
Chick's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
Cut taxes from bottom up
- Excerpt: "We can have tax relief for all by reducing income taxes from the bottom up. This eases the burden on those struggling hard to pay the bills with the added effect of boosting our economy."
Let teachers teach
- Excerpt: "Teachers know what it takes to get students to learn. Let’s put our trust in Delaware’s teachers and put them back in charge of the classroom."
Educational freedom for our schools
- Excerpt: "Many of the problems facing our schools are directly attributable to a loss of local control. A top-down “one size fits all” approach has been a tremendous burden to public education. The emphasis on high-stakes testing and copious data collection should be abandoned in favor of teacher-driven education. It’s time to put an end to unnecessary mandates in our schools and promote freedom in education."
Promote fiscal responsibility
- Excerpt: "Fiscal restraint and disciplined spending is not an impossible task. It only takes the right people to do the job. Before we put our state further into debt, areas should be identified where savings can be made. I will look at every expenditure that comes across my desk in terms of a cost-benefit analysis. Not only is being prudent with public money the right thing to do, it also helps economic growth."
Protect your rights; Defend personal freedom
- Excerpt: "We should never have to worry about whether our government is spying on us or if we might become the target of some overzealous agency. Our constitutional guarantees and traditional rights under the law are not up for debate. There are innumerable, undefinable freedoms we all enjoy that must be defended from political encroachment. I will be the guardian of your rights in the General Assembly, there to stand against oppressive laws and heavy-handed government action."
