Collapse all
|- School funding must be increased to address raising teacher pay and per pupil funding to match increased costs related to cost of living and inflation. We must eliminate underfunded and unfunded mandates handed to our districts. We must support financial obligations intended to keeping Texas children safe in their classrooms and schools.
We must support innovative teacher recruitment efforts through scholarships and student loan forgiveness. We must also retain and support continuous teacher improvement and training. This should include learning pathways and ongoing professional development.
We must move away from a punitive based scoring rubric when it comes to school accountability. STAAR testing is not a gold standard of success. - We must provide access to healthcare to ALL Texas families. During Covid, through Medicaid expansion, we saw more Texans covered than any time in the past ten years. In a state that brags to be the 8th largest economy in the world, we rank near the bottom of the United States in healthcare. We know that improved access to primary and preventative care can increase a person's health outcomes in a positive trajectory. Additionally, reduced and often debilitating medical costs can be offset. This leads to more financial security and economic mobility for those receiving Medicaid benefits. ALL mothers need access to quality care both during pregnancy and after delivery. Medicaid allows more healthy babies and moms to thrive in TX.
- We need our families to thrive in TX. This happens when workforce meets good paying jobs. We are uniquely positioned in HD30 as rich in infrastructure. We have had industry investments made due to the Inflation Reduction Act that are directing billions of dollars into the district. What are we lacking? A regional workforce needs to be developed to meet those industry needs. How can we do it? We can partner with Texas Workforce Commission, Industry and our public schools, university and College partners to build a highly skilled, well-trained workforce that keeps our good paying jobs here in our district to the benefit of our families, communities and schools.
Ensuring that safety is a priority for our community in body and mind.
Integrity
Performing with truth and honesty as guideposts.
Stewardship
Leaving a legacy of progress our district can celebrate.
Inclusivity
My little sister was born hours before the flood. My mom delivered her and went straight to work at the hospital. She was a lab technician and the dead and injured overwhelmed the regional hospital. My father, a coal miner, went straight to work in recovering friends and family impacted by the flood. My brother, sister and I went to a neighboring county to stay with family. I was three...and I remember watching the water flow past our home in the town of Man, WV.
