Campaign finance
Hoklin was the subject of a complaint by the Montana Republican Party that he did not file required campaign finance reports. Jonathan Motl, the Commissioner of Political Practices, agreed with the complaint, but also extended the finding to 41 other candidates, including 15 Republicans. Motl later revised that number to 39 candidates in total, most of whom filed late reports by his deadline of August 13. Three legislative candidates, two Libertarians and a Republican, did not file in time and were subsequently removed from the ballot. Hoklin said he did not file reports because he had raised no money.[5][6][7]
