I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska but was raised in St. Louis. I attended Saint Louis University for my undergraduate studies (B.A. 2009) and for law school (J.D. 2012). For the past decade, I have resided in Maplewood and spent the past eight years as a civil litigator representing individuals from all walks of life in Missouri and Illinois state and federal courts. I am a member of the Missouri Bar Association, Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Illinois Bar, St. Louis Young Democrats, Sierra Club, and Hadley Township Democratic Club. I hope to bring my litigation experience to Jefferson City in furtherance of protecting the will of the people as well as the constitutional ballot initiatives - such as Clean Missouri - that they voted for.
  • Missourians should have access to affordable healthcare.
  • Missourians should have access to fully funded schools.
  • Missourians should have jobs that pay a living wage.
I am concerned about healthcare reform, protection of organized labor, education, open access to courts. Furthermore, we need to make sure that our ballot initiative process is protected and that attacks on it are defeated so that the voters can have a referendum when the legislature fails to carry out their duties.
My dad. He is a surgeon and I admire that he will always go the extra mile for the people entrusted to his care. While we disagree about political issues, we agree on work ethic. My dad taught me to never worry about what the competition was doing and to concentrate on that which was within my control - if you put forth your best effort, everything else will fall into place.
Honesty, integrity, open-mindedness, and respect for the office for which they have been entrusted.
I am honest, respectful and thoughtful when listening to the concerns of others. While I am strong on my positions, I am always willing to consider other positions and to negotiate at arms length. I do not minimize the experiences of other people.
Showing up to committee meetings, and participating at hearings and on the floor for votes. Being available to staff, colleagues, constituents and interested parties when necessary. Maintaining and open like of communication with with constituents and inviting input on issues. Continuing to educate yourself on new issues so that you will be prepared to address them and provide solutions.
One of cooperation with those I might disagree with for the betterment of the people in my community.
The first really important moment in history that I can remember was the crash of TWA Flight 800 when I was nine years old. Pre-9/11 this was the most important event that I could recall happening. It was especially concerning for people in my community as two two children in my neighborhood lost both of their parents in that crash.
My first job was as a busboy at the Missouri Botanical Gardens when I was 15 years old. I met fantastic people while working there, most of whom were just trying to make ends meet for their families. That was the beginning of my work history and I never stopped working since then. I ended up working food service jobs through high school and college as well as taking on internships and volunteering opportunities that arose.
The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe because I am a sucker for depressing Irish literature.
I believe everyone struggles with self-doubt from time to time; however, questioning yourself can lead to having a more honest personal outlook. I believe I adequately navigate this issue by taking steps to maintain my mental health.
In Missouri, the house makes headlines while the senate refines proposed law. It seems that representatives have an equal opportunity to drive the initial policy conversations.
Not particularly; however, I believe that legislators would be well served to understand fundamental principles of law. The unfortunate reality is that our current state house is passing unconstitutional legislation at a worrying pace.
There are several issues I see as major impediments; however, access to affordable healthcare is likely the biggest issue facing Missourians at this moment.
A harmonious one with open lines of communication. The voters are not well served when the governor and legislature are constantly at odds.
Absolutely. My career requires me to break bread with people whose positions are diametrically opposed to my own. Building relationships and trust is a key to my profession and I will continue to do so if elected. I have found it interesting throughout my career that those who come to your aid are the last people you might expect, but they will do so if you treat them with courtesy, respect, and honesty. If you aren't building trust, you are not winning hearts and are not effectively representing the interests of your community.
Judiciary, Budget, Elementary and Secondary Education, and General Laws.
Not particularly, everyone is different and brings different experiences with them to the job. I only want to be myself and work well with others for the betterment of my community.
Not at this time. I am running because we need strong representation in the state house. I am not running to run for another position.
In the age of COVID-19 every story I hear is important because we are all facing uncertain times together. However, I recently had a neighbor tell me about how his small business will not be able to reopen and he will have to lay off all of his employees. This comes in the wake of inaction at the state level to provide relief to small business owners and working people in the state.
