Two elections will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015. One, a special election in Illinois, will fill a vacancy in Illinois' 18th Congressional District after a disgraced congressman stepped down. The second will take place in New York to determine which candidates will advance to the general election for the Buffalo City Council.
Illinois:
The 18th Congressional District of Illinois will hold a special election for the U.S. House of Representatives on September 10, 2015. The election will fill the vacancy left by Rep. Aaron Schock (R), who resigned following scrutiny over his potential misuse of campaign funds.[1]
Darin LaHood (R) faces Robert Mellon (D) in the election. LaHood is expected to win handily due to the district's Republican bent and his fundraising advantage over Mellon.[2][3]
New York:
In Buffalo, two city council seats will hold contested Democratic primary elections. Fillmore District incumbent David A. Franczyk (D) dual-filed with the Republican Party. He will face Samuel A. Herbert and Joseph A. Mascia in the Democratic primary, and no challengers in the Republican primary. The other Democratic primary will take place in the Masten District, where incumbent Demone A. Smith (D) is not seeking re-election. Ulysees O. Wingo, Sr., Lamone Gibson and Sharon Belton-Cottman will vie for the party's nomination. Michael A. Woolford is unopposed in the Constitution Party primary for the same district.
