Voters in several Texas municipalities will take to the polls to definitively decide who will fill several city council seats and one mayoral position in runoff elections on Saturday. In one of the more high-profile elections, San Antonio residents will select either incumbent Ivy R. Taylor or former state Senator Leticia Van de Putte as their next mayor. In the general election, which featured 14 candidates—one of the largest fields of candidates in San Antonio's recent political history—Van de Putte earned 2 percent more votes than Taylor.[1] Taylor was first appointed to the post in July 2014, after former Mayor Julián Castro left to fill the position of Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Also in Texas, another runoff election will take place to determine who fills the Place 1 seat in the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District. Mark Assaad and Mindy McClure will vie for the position after neither received 50 percent of the vote plus one in the general election. McClure responded to Ballotpedia's candidate survey, saying her top priorities for the district were "Emphasizing and celebrating what we are doing well at GCISD, while working to avoid complacency and making continued improvement a priority. Also, to continue to encourage our community to email and call our state representatives about the fact that our funding is insufficient for the needs of this district."
