William I. Garfinkel was a federal magistrate judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. He was appointed to this position in 1996.[1] He retired from the court on February 26, 2021.[2][3]

Education

Judge Garfinkel was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree from Yale College in 1977 and his J.D. degree from Yale Law School in 1981.[1]

Professional career

Judge Garfinkel began his career in 1981 as a law clerk to former U.S. District Judge Lacey. He then worked as an assistant district attorney in New York County. Upon returning to New Haven, he worked for the law firm Wiggin & Dana and taught for four years at the University of Bridgeport School of Law. He joined Carmody & Torrance in 1987 and became a partner of this firm in 1992. He joined the district court as a federal magistrate judge in 1996.[1]
