Thomas Welch was a judge of the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court. He assumed office in 1980. He left office on July 7, 2025.
Welch ran for re-election for judge of the Illinois 5th District Appellate Court. He won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.
Welch died on July 7, 2025.[1]
Education
Judge Welch graduated from the University of Illinois with a B.S. degree and then from the University of Missouri with a J.D. degree.[2]
Career
Judge Welch began his career in 1965 as a Circuit Court Magistrate. From 1971 to 1972, he was a Madison County Assistant State's Attorney and an attorney for the City of Collinsville. He also became a partner of the law firm of Welch, Welch and Welch in 1971. He worked in this position until his election to the Appellate Court in 1980.[2]
