Denise Razo was a candidate for District 1 representative on the El Paso Community College Board of Trustees in Texas. She was defeated in the runoff election on June 10, 2017.
Biography
Razo earned an associate degree in liberal arts from El Paso Community College and a B.A. in criminal justice, an M.P.A., and an M.Ed. in educational administration from the University of Texas at El Paso. She also earned her Ed.D. from the University of Texas El Paso in 2013. [1]
Razo's professional experience includes work as a teacher with the Canutillo Independent School District, the El Paso Independent School District, and the Ysleta Independent School District. She has also served as the educational director of the Mexican American Bar Association of El Paso and a member of the board of Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center.[1]

2017
El Paso County, Texas, held a general election for the District 1 and 7 seats on the community college board of trustees on May 6, 2017. A runoff election in District 1 was scheduled for June 10, 2017. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was February 17, 2017. Incumbent John Uxer Jr. defeated Denise Razo in the runoff election for the District 1 seat on the El Paso Community College Board of Trustees.[2]

Ensure the continued promotion of educational services and program offerings; and ensure guidance to students in how to efficiently maximum the current offerings of the EPCC's services and programs. 9. Ensure the continued expansion and improvement of working cooperatively with local citizens and entities (businesses, industry, agencies, etc) in meeting employment and training needs in the El Paso area. 10. Ensure the board is an objective purveyor of information in the decision-making process and that this decision-making process remains nonpartisan and researched-based; for example, how demographic factors correspond to socioeconomic factors in the El Paso area.[3] |

Razo told the El Paso Times that she opposed a bond to supplement the cost of planned additions to El Paso Community College campuses. She said, "We need to cut administrative spending, that's how we can pay for facilities."[5]
