Jeff Kaplan is a former federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He served in this position from 1994 to 2014.[1]
Biography and Education
Judge Kaplan was born in 1956. He received his B.A. degree in political science from Vanderbilt University in 1978 and his J.D. degree from Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1981.[1]
Professional career
Judge Kaplan began his career in 1981 as a briefing attorney on the Texas Fifth District Court of Appeals. The following year, he became a private practice lawyer, where he worked for about nine years. He also taught at Southern Methodist University School of Law from 1983 to 1987. In 1991, he left his law practice and became a justice of the Fifth District Court of Appeals. He then joined the law firm Johnston & Budner, P.C. as a shareholder in 1993.[1]
