The Missouri legislature is one of 16 state legislatures with term limits. Voters enacted the Missouri Term Limits Act in 1992. That initiative said that Missouri representatives are subject to term limits of no more than four two-year terms, or a total of eight years.[3]
The first year that the 1992 term limits impacted the ability of incumbents to run for office was 2002.
Vacancies
If there is a vacancy in the Missouri General Assembly, the governor of Missouri must call for a special election without delay. The election mandate is sent to the county or counties in the legislative district.[8]
