James Clayborne is a Democratic member of the Illinois State Senate. Clayborne has served in the Illinois Senate since 1995 and currently serves as the Majority Leader. Clayborne was re-elected in November of 2008 with his term expiring in 2013. Before becoming a Senator, Clayborne was the State's Attorney for St. Clair County and a private practice Attorney.

Clayborne graduated from Tennessee State with his Bachelor's degree and from Miami-Florida Law with his Juris Doctor degree.

Clayborne won re-election in the 2012 election for Illinois State Senate District 57. Clayborne defeated Wyatt Frazer in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012 and defeated Dave Barnes (R) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3][4][5]
