Campaign themes

2010

Reiter focused on four campaign themes in his race for the Maryland State Senate. They were:

  • Economic growth. His campaign said, "The cost of doing business in Maryland is too high. Bernie Reiter will work with others in the State Senate to lower taxes on Small Business and to give them incentive to hire within the city of Baltimore."
  • Tax relief: Reiter said, "It is appalling that the current Senate Met in the middle of the night to pass a 1.4 billion tax increase on the State of Maryland. I will work to repeal those taxes and prevent the onslaught of new taxes that are killing jobs in Baltimore City."
  • Fiscal responsibility: He said, "Simply Put: If we don’t have it. We don’t spend it. Lets direct the money away from bloated government programs that are wasting our money and give it to individuals and organizations that are actually doing the work. Change State contract bid processes so that we get the best equipment for the least cost."
  • Immigration: Reiter said, "Illegal immigration costs this State BILLIONS of dollars each year. We need to remove the loopholes that allow illegal immigrants the ability to get drivers licenses in this state. No instate tuition for illegal immigrants. Aggressively enforce current laws that prohibit the hiring of illegal immigrants."
