Nicholson ran for election to the Orphans Court of Frederick County.
Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 33.7 percent of the vote. She competed against James Edward French and Janis Judson. Primary candidates ran unopposed for 3 seats.
General: She was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 13.5 percent of the vote. She competed against James Edward French, Jimmy W. Trout, Janis Judson, and incumbent judges, Adrian Remsberg and Cleopatra Campbell for three open seats.

Nicholson worked for the Motor Vehicle Administration in Frederick County for 30 years.[3]
