Three of the nine seats on the Cherry Hill Public Schools school board were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Incumbent Jane Scarpellino, along with Ruth Schultz and Edward Wang, defeated incumbent Steve Robbins, Frederick Dande, Joseph Gerace, and Ian Morris to win the three seats up for election. Incumbent Elliott Roth originially filed to run for re-election but withdrew from the race before the election.[1]

Voter and candidate information
The Cherry Hill school board consists of nine nonpartisan members who are elected at large to three-year terms. Elections are staggered with three seats being up for election each year. The general election was held on November 8, 2016. There was no primary election.[2]
Candidates for the school board must be 18 years old and registered to vote. They must also have resided within the district for at least one year prior to their election or appointment. School board candidates cannot be convicted of a felony. There are no term limits.[2]

Cherry Hill Public Schools is located in southwestern New Jersey in Camden County. The county seat is Camden. The county was home to 510,923 residents in 2015, according to the United States Census Bureau.[7] The district was the 13th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 11,266 students.[8]
Demographics
Camden County underperformed in comparison to New Jersey as a whole in terms of higher education achievement between 2010 and 2014. The United States Census Bureau found that 29.7 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 36.4 percent of all state residents. The median household income in the county was $61,842, compared to $72,062 for the state. The poverty rate in the county was 13 percent, compared to 10.8 percent statewide.[7]
