Geary participated in Ballotpedia's 2017 survey of municipal government candidates.[5] The following sections display his responses to the survey questions. When asked what his top priority would be if elected, the candidate made the following statement:

Economic Growth - Omaha's economic future depends on attracting new industrial development and new jobs. By using all methods possible, I will work to bring new development to the city. The use of Tiff Funding for new developments is one way to attract investment to our city. I am particularly interested in projects like Crossroads Mall and the 60th & Sorenson development. These are just a couple of developments that will bring several jobs and an increase in the local economy.[6]
—Christopher Geary (March 3, 2017)[7]

What is the one thing you’re most proud of about your city?
The People.
What is the one thing you’d most like to change about your city?
Crime - The time & manner in which to change a culture is to reach the young people. We need to develop programs in our schools and community where Police Officers get to engage our kids and their parents in constructive conversation. The kids will get to know the officers as someone to trust instead of fear, someone to run to and not from. We need the schools to provide job training that is directly related to our opportunities within the city so our kids have land high wage, high demand, high skilled jobs right out of high school. We need after school programs to keep the kids engaged and involved so they don't have to turn to gangs for something to do. We also need strong penalties for gun crimes to make it something that isn't worth doing. This and keeping the Police Force at full strength and equipped and trained to do their job will in time help reduce violent crime.

Geary offered the following comments with his 2017 candidate survey:

People have either asked me personally, or by e-mail this question, "How do you plan to win this election if you are not accepting campaign contributions?" My answer is, how much money does someone have to spend to buy your vote? Politicians spend thousands to hit you several times a day with commercials and mailings. Many people mute the TV, or toss the mailings into the trash. This advertising is a big waste of money. You have the information on what I stand for, look it over and see if you agree. Omaha has around 40,000 households who actually vote in primaries and it doesn't cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to reach them. My magnets and letters will end up reaching 90% of those voters. No further calls or mailings will be made to remind people. Having the magnet and web site on their refrigerator keeps my name in front of them several times a day. I believe, unlike politicians, that voters are smart and will do the research if they truly want change. Don't worry about how others are going to vote, do the research, do what you know is right, then make sure you vote. I don't like watching 20 or more political commercials a day and I am sure you don't either.[7][6]

Additional themes

Geary's campaign website included the following themes:

Public Safety
Omaha's crime rate is a major concern to me, as your mayoral candidate, as well as to the citizens of Omaha. As mayor, it will be my responsibility to find ways to decrease crime, as well as improve response time of our police force and firefighters. As a veteran, I have the training and background to approach this challenge with a mindset for results. I want you, as a resident of this city, to be assured that I have spent my adult life working hard to prevent crimes and sexual assaults. I will continue working hard for your safety. As mayor, I will focus on reducing the threat of online predators and child molesters that prowl our streets. My thoughts are with the families of the victims of these crimes. I will work for harsher punishments for those who commit violent and heinous crimes.

Fiscal Responsibility
As mayor, there is a responsibility to every citizen of the city to be fiscally responsible with spending. By not being fiscally responsible, each citizen pays the price through tax increases and often the benefits are not realized. As mayor, I will oversee the city's budget just as I do my small business to ensure that we are spending money on the right things and not spending money irresponsibly. This does not mean that we will never see a tax increase, as that is not a realistic expectation. Sometimes, we may have to decide that we as a city need to contribute a bit more to accomplish a goal like better education or lower crime. Together, we can make these decisions.

Education
I look forward to working with the school districts to give thoughtful guidance to resolve educational issues. Educational achievement gap issues have been an ongoing problem. Working together I know that there are solutions to overcome those issues. Although the proper teachers and administrators in each school are important, I also know that there is no substitute for good old-fashioned parenting. As a teacher for over 22 years, I understand the need for parents to be personally involved with their children. Without a strong foundation at home, no child, whether residing in the inner city or suburb, has any chance of succeeding. I would work with community groups and schools to encourage families to attend classes to improve their parenting skills. We also need to improve the parent participation in the schools by encouraging more involvement in the Parent Teacher Organizations.

Economy
Omaha's economic future depends on finding ways to attract new industrial development so that we can increase the number of jobs available. I want to build a more prosperous economy in which everybody who wants to work will be able to find a job. I will work hard to attract new industrial development and provide economic incentives for companies that are thinking about establishing offices and factories in our city, as well as help existing companies that are taking steps to expand their operations and create new well-paying jobs. I want to attract different types of businesses so people will have a reason to stay in Omaha instead of moving out of state to pursue more promising career opportunities elsewhere.[8][6]

2012

Geary's campaign Facebook page highlighted the following campaign themes:[9]

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "I will work to help create jobs while balancing the state’s budget to ease the tax burden on families and businesses. This can be achieved by investments in value-added agricultural products, cutting wasteful spending and supporting entrepreneurship. I will make every effort to vote against any piece of legislation that would increase the state’s income or sales taxes."

Education

  • Excerpt: "I will provide careful, thoughtful guidance to resolve educational and achievement gap issues for our children. As a teacher of martial arts for 18 years, I understand the need for parents to be personally involved with their children. Without a strong foundation at home, children, whether residing in the inner city, suburb, or rural areas, are less likely to be successful."

Families

  • Excerpt: "One of the most important things in life is family. I want you to be assured that your Legislative Senator has spent his livelihood working hard to prevent crimes and sexual assaults against others. I will continue working hard for your safety on a state level in an attempt to reduce the threat of online predators and child molesters that prowl our streets. "

Economy

  • Excerpt: "Nebraska’s economic future depends on finding ways to attract new industrial development. This will increase the number of jobs for Nebraskans, building a more prosperous economy. More businesses mean more jobs and people will have a reason to stay in Nebraska instead of moving out of state to pursue more promising career opportunities elsewhere."

Agriculture

  • Excerpt: "Agriculture is essential to our state and the nation, and our state must remain productive and profitable through sustainable agriculture. Each of us depends on the vital farm sector to provide food. We also look to agriculture for renewable energy sources, the open lands that maintain scenic vistas, recreational opportunities and wildlife habitat."
