Campaign themes

2016

Rodriguez's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • A high quality education is the key to success in today’s world. I come from humble beginnings; education was my chance to create a better life for my family and I. My studies in Hawaii, Japan, England, and the mainland have allowed me to become a healthy and happy individual that believes in the importance of community, the power of the human spirit, and the meaning of Aloha. I believe our students deserve the best education and it is our duty to provide the structure for that. We have gone too long settling for less than the best. Our government officials have wasted funding on projects that were poorly planned and carried out (i.e. HART). It is time Hawaii leads the way for the 21st century, and education is the key to our success.
  • My platform, progressive in essence, is to prioritize the need to improve Hawaii’s educational system. I believe Hawaii has great potential to be an educational leader. I have had the greatest honor teaching our children and college students the issues of our communities for many years here in Honolulu. As both a teacher and student, I have seen the best and worst of our system. Now, I believe my leadership skills can best be used serving the people of Hawaii as our District 24 State Representative. As our delegate I will communicate often and be a critical voice for us.[1]
