Daniel Judson is a former Massachusetts commissioner of insurance. He was appointed commissioner by Gov. Biography

After briefly working for Coverys Insurance Company, Judson became the president of the Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers, the high risk pool for auto insurance in Massachusetts, in 2011.[3][4][5]

Political career
Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance (2015-2017)
Judson was appointed Massachusetts Commissioner of Insurance by Gov. Charlie Baker (R) in April 2015. He took over for Gary Anderson, who had been serving as interim director since January 2015. Upon accepting the appointment, Judson made the following statement:
“ | The Massachusetts insurance marketplace is the tenth largest in the country, and its work touches the daily lives of every citizen as well as the bottom line of every business. Regulating that marketplace to the benefit of all is an exciting challenge, and I am grateful for the opportunity.[1][6] | ” |
Former Commissioner Joseph Murphy praised Gov. Baker's appointment of Judson:
“ | I first met Dan when I was a young staffer on the Insurance and Financial Services Committee in the Legislature and Dan was counsel at DOI. He was a great resource and advisor to us as we evaluated complicated insurance related legislation...
The Insurance Commissioner’s job is one of the most demanding jobs in state government – balancing the solvency of our industry with the protection of consumers. I also consider the job the best in state government – one where the decisions you make impact every resident of the Commonwealth in some way. Dan has been preparing for this job during his entire career and is well suited to lead the Division of Insurance. By coincidence, I am now COO of a company Dan worked at along the way. All of us at Coverys wish Dan the best of luck as he embarks on his tenure as Commissioner and congratulate Governor Baker on an excellent pick![1][6] |
